Okay, so this book was slow, it took about 200 pages for the plot to move at all. The characters were also annoying, and I guessed the twist pretty early on. With that being said, it was fun and even though the pacing was slow, the writing style was so simplistic that it was an easy read. I like Jeneva Rose's books and will continue to read them because they're what I call popcorn books, they're super easy to read, kind of messy, but  easily digestible, she's becoming my go to author when I need a break.

Grace’s escapade is going almost perfectly, except that the Airbnb she has booked has a suspicious-looking locked room and no cell service or WiFi.

When the owner of the Airbnb, Calvin starts to get too friendly with her and the police stop by looking for a missing woman who was supposed to have checked in, Grace gets the sense that she might not be able to leave as easily as she had come.

This was a classic case of ‘I picked up the book because of the cover‘. I wish I hadn’t.

Even if you can tolerate books with unlikeable characters, I wouldn’t recommend that you sit through this.

Nothing seems odd about Grace at first. She is a woman on a road trip, experiencing what it’s like to travel alone.

But then, out of nowhere, she develops an interest in the owner of the Airbnb. No matter how shady things look or how clearly she ought to be using her judgement to make better decisions, Grace does the exact opposite of what you’d urge her to do.

When her mood swings lead her to blowing hot and cold towards Calvin, you begin to realise that there’s more than what meets the eye.

The chapters alternate between Grace’s and Calvin’s POVs. While this serves to show us their train of thought, it constantly depicts both of them as morally grey characters – far too insistently to make the reveal at the end even a tad bit surprising.

I didn’t think the writing style... Read the rest of the review on my blog

I’m going to give this one 3.5 stars… it was good and entertaining. It kept me guessing every once and a while but I was expecting more from Rose as “The Perfect Marriage” was so incredible. Still a good easy to read thriller!
EDIT: the ending was WACK! I’ll give it an extra half star for just the ending.

This is one of those books that I just won’t accept criticism on. Sorry not sorry. That ending?!!!! My jaw is permanently stuck to the ground. Anyone that tells me that they just happened to call all of this coming is lying. There is no way. I’m in awe.

Devoured this. I love a narrator you go back and forth on. Some eye roll moments but over all enjoyable.

Oh…my word. This is the most bizarre book, I don’t even know where to start.

If you told me an eighth grader wrote this after learning about similes, metaphors, and allegories—while also discovering smut for the first time—I would believe you! It would make sense. I’m BEGGING you to go look at my highlights. I was actually selective about the mind boggling quotes I chose to feature.

I cannot count the amount of entire-face-double-takes I did while listening to this. The writing style is just so strange, nonsensical, and cringey without being the least bit charming. Did AI “help” with this? I literally cannot fathom an adult coming up with these phrases and then publishing them in a book. I’ve read another title by this author and it was not like this at all, so I’m very confused.

Sorry/you’re welcome to all my friends and family who received screenshots of this one. I was listening to the audio and had to check out the ebook to send them proof of this insanity.

If I have to read “blue, blue eyes” ONE MORE TIME 🔪🩸

Also, I called this “twist” if it can even be called that. Good riddance. I can’t believe this is real.
