This Swedish piece of fiction was published 1905 and delves into the psyche of a doctor contemplating murdering one of his patients. The language was a barrier at times, but it didn't prevent my progress. The paranoia of guilt, which is so typically “Poe-esque” and infectious, is as central to the storytelling as the spiteful and, at times, ridiculous inner monologue of hate. I do wonder if the people who read this 120 years ago (ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY YEARS AGO?!) laughed at the narrator's distaste for the pastor as I did.
