My 6 year old son loved it, but I had to do a lot of editing on the fly to cut out some of the sheer rudeness of Henry and his friends. Probably won't read more Henry books for that reason, which is too bad because the plot ideas are pretty appealing to kiddos.

We listened to the audio version. Neil Patrick Harris was perfect.
Each chapter stands alone for the most part, which is good for kids who have issues with suspense and cliffhangers (my kid). Nothing objectionable or scary. Henry is simply a good kid, with a good dog, living everyday, middle class 1950 small city life. The whole family enjoyed it.

It had been many, many years since I'd read Henry Huggins...I was surprised how much was familiar to me! Had the great pleasure of listening to the audio book narrated by Neil Patrick Harris! Such a great, wholesome, fun book!

I read this out loud to my 6-year old son with my 4-year old daughter listening in. He laughed out loud a few times, and she asked questions, but I think the chapters were quite long. (I like reading an entire chapter at a time.) My son liked it enough to be glad about reading another Henry book, so we did.

My eight-year-old and I read this aloud together for Battle of the Books (I read the narration and dialogue for Henry, and he read everybody else; we had two copies of the book and it was fun to read it in this way!). This is pretty dated (Henry is pretty young to be navigating the bus system by himself) but overall it's still pretty fun. I had read a lot of Ramona books in my youth, but Henry was only a side character in those, so these stories were new to me.

Listened to this book on audio with the kids. They loved it and I laughed out loud several times. That Henry gets himself into some funny situations.

I know I read this as a kid, but I sure didn't remember a lot of it! A great story with great characters, Beverly Cleary is a wonderful children's author. I like that the kids are so real and have normal, real world adventures with friends and family. These are must-read books for all kids and their parents too!
