i was super interested in the premise of this book - written by an alien about humans - yet i couldn’t love this book like i wanted to. i enjoyed the story itself but because the main character was an alien, he had a kind of know-it-all way of explaining/talking about things that i really didn’t appreciate. i didn’t know if i truly enjoyed the book or not until i was nearly 2/3 through it. the latter half of the book redeemed it *a little bit* for me when he started talking more like a human & denounced his alien citizenship. i loved the insight on human emotion, its irrationality, and how the imperfections in life are what make it worth living
i’m giving this 3.5/5 stars - was gonna be 3.25 but the third part of the book bumped it a little

This is honestly one of the best books I've read in awhile. I read most of it over a couple of plane rides, and I could barely put it down. It has just the right mix of humor, sci-fi, romance, and contemporary fiction, and has something for just about everyone. The characters are (mostly) likable, but also feel very real (even the alien narrator!). And there's a dog who you'll instantly fall in love with.
Overall, 4.75 for the slightly rushed ending, but phenomenal otherwise. A decent length read that makes you think about life and love, and what it means to be human.
