It kills me to rate an Adam Silvera book 2 stars but I have to. I love this author but this book just didn't do it for me. I didn't really like Emil or Brighton they were both just whiny and selfish. I loved the idea of the book but it seemed under developed like all of a sudden things just started happening with no real build up. I was really looking forward to Infinity Son but probably won't be continuing this series.

I was sent this book as an advanced copy by the publisher via Edelwiess for reviewing purposes, but all opinions are my own.

Look, I tried! I really did. I went back and tried to read past about 30%. I just can't get into it. I am confounded that the author made a book about superheroes, with a chosen one with rebirth and Phoenix powers, made it sound so utterly boring. I didn't care for any characters, one way or another, nor did I enjoy the plot. And the lack of world building was just too confusing.

In this times of our apocalypse, I refuse to read something this inane.

I’m torn because I loved the magic system and the mythology and the fact that it was modern magical. I loved Emil and Ness. But Brighton bugged me to death. There were times I felt bad for him but mostly I just thought he was a selfish idiot and he made such stupid choices and comments.
