This is such cool world building. I love Adam Silvera's books so much and his writting style so much. I also like these boys so much. And their mom. So many of their friends and family are amazing but so many bad things are happening to them. The magic and celestial are very cool and the powers are so fun! Also magic Beasts, all in New York! Very fun book and it's Gay! Highly recommend and I will be reading the rest of the series!

It was an okay book, definitely not as good as the other Adam Silvera book I’ve read (they both die at the end) but alright. The acknowledgments said it’s his first fantasy book and I think that is quite noticeable. The idea was interesting by itself but the world building was unclear at best and confusing at worst. The different new terms were confusing to me and I think another round of edits might’ve cleared it up a bit more. Also the writing was very cringy at times and made the characters sound like they’re 13 and not 18. The ages of all of them were quite confusing as well. Additionally the pov changed almost every chapter, which is fine, but every character voice sounded the same. Emil and Brighton were both a bit annoying and Brighton got more and more insufferable nearing the end because of his YouTube canal. That was going on my nerves a lot.
The end was, well — why the hell? I get Brighton wants fame and power or whatever but somehow drinking that potion didn’t really feel to be aligning up with his characterisation.
