Read with Lydia after the littles went to bed.

Well done introduction to Shakespeare. Some of the cuts needed to get the stories shorter hurt, like the heavily abbreviated end of Macbeth. I prefer Rosie Dickins's "Illustrated Stories from Shakespeare", although Nesbit did include three times as many plays.

I was surprised at how much my kids enjoyed this, not because I didn’t think they would like Shakespeare, but because some of the plots were still quite complex despite being simplified. I started it thinking that they would soon begging me to listen to a different book but night after night the kids wanted this story and were engaged, giggling and asking questions. Their favorite was Midsummer Nights Dream, Romeo and Juliet (but only because of PJ Masks, and definitely not because of all the death, say they), and Taming of the Shrew. Christian was not a fan of all the romance. 😁

Twenty of Shakespeare's plays re-shaped to be easily understood by children. A great introduction to the plays of the Bard for younger readers. A fantastic book to use for bedtime stories. The illustrations are gorgeous, with all the characters portrayed as children. A masterful classic work every parent should own and read to their children.
