This is a prequel story to Falling Kingdoms involving Magnus. I really enjoyed it and I am kind of hoping that it somehow the other characters end up in the series. 4/5 Stars.

I enjoyed this, and it was definitely a good story. I thought it was going to be the story of how Magnus got his scar, but unfortunately it was not. My own fault for assuming, but I was a little disappointed. I still enjoyed it though, and I wonder if any of these characters wills how up in the rest of the series.

"No, it’s not an excuse. But it’s a reason. You were a seven-year-old child terrified of your father. I saw in your eyes—that fear. I thought your life might be different with him than what I experienced in his employ as a guard, that he would value you and treat you like gold. But he doesn’t, does he? Not even now.”

MINI SPOILERS AHEAD FOR FALLING KINGDOMS:

MAGNUS MY LOVE!!!

It showed just another reason behind Magnus and explains why he acts like that and why he is how he is. He values his throne, his family and his kingdom much more than himself. And I am actually so happy that there were people who actually saw the real him even before the actual novel starts and comes around.

The novella gives a clearer view and message on Magnus and this is just a must read for the fans of Falling Kingdoms and all who plan to start this series. Magnus has always been one of my favorite characters no matter what <3

I loved being able to learn just a little bit about Magnus. He is one of my favorite characters and definitely goes through so much development in the Falling Kingdoms series. He deserves the world and I really enjoyed this small story :)

So...I guess all I have to say about this was that it was okay. It could have been because I was reading it white fighting through a super painful pressure headache or it could have just been because at the end, I didn't feel like it was needed. I've only read book one but I already knew how much of a dick Magnus's father was. I already hated him. I already loved Magnus and knew the kinds of struggles that he was probably going through.

I suppose those two characters could show up in later books and make it more relevant but for right now, for me, this was only an okay novella.

I'm indifferent to this book and these characters. I know nothing about the other two but I'm assuming they are gonna show up later... I just can't bring myself to care though.

Magnus is such an interesting character. I know I'll grow to love him later in the books!
