5 stars. i adore Foucault, and his loss was one felt around the world for a great mind gone too early. biopolitics is perhaps more prominent than ever in today's day and age, and Foucault's writings on power and control in connection with the human body were prophetic warnings given of what was to come. Foucault's unique talent lies in taking something you feel you are familiar with, and explaining it in a way where it connects with his idea of modern biopolitical power without alienating that concept from your prior understanding, only adding to it. the originator of the allusion to the Panopticon that so many others use -- not wrongfully -- to explain authoritarian control, Foucault never misses with his societal analysis.
