Be Still My Heart by Emily McIntire, Sav R. Miller

Mystery, suspense, romance with a grumpy/sunshine sorta combo… this was a fast-paced read. The mystery of the killer wasn’t anything too out of the ordinary, but the interaction between Sloane and Lincoln was great all around. Loved the tension and the verbal sparring. There did seem to be a double mystery sort of going on, and since this takes place on an island EVERYONE knows everyone and there is a lot of overlap in motives and relationships. A solid “romantic suspense” story that was surprisingly sweet when it came to friendships and old heartaches.

I had such high hopes for this book but it didn’t do it for me. I’ve read a few of Emily McIntire books earlier this year and I absolutely loved them, but this book didn’t do it for me. I was able to figure out the main twist and the who-done-it a couple of chapters in. Also parts of the writing style was very annoying because it was trying to use modern/social media slang and I just don’t like that. I’m going to try another book from both of these authors in the future to give them a second chance.

I didn’t go into this book expecting much since I haven’t read any other books by these authors, so I wasn’t sure how well I’d get on with their writing style. But, Emily and Sav came through and wrote such an addicting book.

I haven’t read many romantic thrillers so I don’t have much to compare it to. But, I’m pretty sure it was a good one! My only comparison would be Indigo Ridge (4⭐️) by Devney Perry and I personally preferred Be Still My Heart.

At the start, the pacing felt a bit slow but that could’ve been because people kept talking to me and distracting me so I struggled to find my rhythm. Things definitely started to pick up though and then it was just constant thrills and angst all the way through to the very end.

The tension between Lincoln and Sloane was unmistakable. We love a grumpy ex-seal turned lobster fisherman don’t we ladies (and gentleman). Combine that with a feisty female detective, and you know the romance is going to be explosive.

I’m off to buy the rest of Emily and Sav’s books.

Great read and did not expect that ending! The spice was spicy and the suspense had me on edge. Definitely a book to read !
