my Goodreads rating from 2011 was 5 ⭐ having re-read it I will be giving it a 3.5⭐ due to there are 3 potential love interests and the quite young at times inner voice of the female protagonist, she is 17 but reads a bit younger. That being said it's such a good read. This book finds the perfect balance of world building and action scenes to keep the story moving at a good pace without confusing the reader with obscure magics and creatures. The overall story and plot is strong we learn new things with the characters and we don't get too much or too little information. There are a few subplots and everything ties together in some way and its fun to discover these with the characters. I adore the main protagonist's in this series, Beck is flawed and Riley is broken and they are both trying to find themselves and they are just so interesting to read. I am glad I am re-reading the first few books before picking up the new books as there are definitely smaller plot details i forgot that will definitely be important (the meaning of Riley's name and the title of the most recent book are very much connected).

Great storyline, strong characters. However, it felt like only half a book, felt like it ended abruptly. Can't wait for the second one.

Younger me's life was changed after this, literally and the little scene with the holy water and the claw had me screaming when I first read it, iconic.

I need the second book now. I need to read on. I haven't read a book about demons until now. Riley is a Demon trapper not a demon hunter and yes there is a difference. At the start of the book Riley has already had a struck of bad luck, and its about to get a whole lot worse. Her world has been turned upside down. The only reason I'm giving this 4 stars is because i have trouble getting into it at the start but about 80 pages in that's when it becomes interesting.

I picked this up on a hunch looking for something else. It's pretty good. Basically a 17 year old girl called Riley is training to be a Demon Trapper and it's how she gets going. The story did get a little slow in the middle but it's well worth it to keep going. Starting the next one in a few minutes. Would recommend to YA but a little older than tweens.
