Zoey is a strong woman - she doesn't take any crap from anyone. You don't mess with her and you don't mess with her friends. When Zoey's best friend Maya is abused by her husband, Zoey steps in to help her. Maya's husbands brother, Kellen, also steps up to help. Kellen is nothing like his abusive jerk brother. He has a reputation for being a nice guy, sometimes too nice and people think he's a pushover. Zoey and Kellen don't get along but when they are forced to spend time together they see there's more to each other than what they thought. I love this story. Although the subject matter is pretty serious with the abuse, the author still manages to write quite a few hysterical scenes in this book. I love Zoey. She has a temper, she has a filthy mouth but she's extremely loyal. Sometimes, she is incredibly frustrating and mean but I loved her and was really rooting for her to figure herself out. Kellen is amazing! There was so much I loved about this book from the supporting characters, the storyline, to the humor, witty banter and sexy times. I can't wait to read more books in this series and get Maya and Addy's stories. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a strong female heroine!

The third person writing in this sounds like it’s by a teenager. I don’t think I’ve ever disliked third person writing so much. There is a huge double standard going on with Zoey and the fact that she is not only violent, but also straight up assaults Kellen at one point. But it’s okay for her to do because she’s a woman? When the whole point is that she’s supposed to be keeping her friend safe from her abusive husband? And then from the guys pov it’s like “oh women want manly and dominate” which I get is different from violent but like, there is just so much conflicting in the plot I can’t take it. Only made it 15% in and had to quit.

I like the idea of enemies falling for each other... I also like reading about strong female characters. But Zoey bordered on me wanting to slap her through most of the book.

She took being strong to ridiculous extremes, but she was there for the people she loved in a way that was admirable. I enjoyed her story and her finally getting the happily ever after she deserved.

My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.

Disclaimers: I received an e-galley of this novel from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not obligated to write a good review nor did I receive any compensation for writing this review.

An overview of the Novel: Zoey is known as the girl with walls around her heart a mile thick. She's known as a heart breaker and the girl who won't give anything to a relationship.

What they don't know is that Zoey is haunted by a past that she doesn't realize is still affecting her. She's a bad girl and she's determined never to let anybody mess with her or with her friends for that matter. So when her best friend Maddy shows up at her house saying she's finally left her abusive husband, she's thrilled and determined to protect her. Nothing is going to stand in her way. Not even the nice guy Kellen.

Kellen is devastated when he learns that his brother has been abusing Maddy and determines to help her get back on her feet. There's only one problem--Zoey. She's determined not to let him get close to Maddy or her children. Kellen isn't going to take no for an answer. What he didn't expect was to be so fascinated by Zoey. Everybody's warning him to stay away from her, but Kellen isn't going to take no for an answer, not this time.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I enjoyed this novel more than I thought it would. It was well-written and an interesting read. Zoey and Kellen were two interesting characters and I loved watching them interact and watching them grow through out the novel.

The writing is good, but lacked the depth I would have liked. Zoey and Kellen were great people, but they had some serious scars. I would have liked it if the author had dug into that side of the story more.

However, it's a cute quick read that fans of the new adult genre will love.

So why 3 stars? It just lacked that extra something, that extra depth to raise it to a 4 stars. It was a quick read, but not one that I would probably reread.

Warnings/Side-notes: Strong language. This novel uses strong language several times and is definitely for mature readers. There are references to sex, alcohol, and abuse. Those references are pretty vague for a new adult novel.

The Wrap-up: An enjoyable, quick read about two fiery characters that make this novel a cute read. Since the kindle edition is only $2.99, I'd say it is worth reading.

When you see even just the summaries of books today, most of them, particularly those of the NA and Contemporary category, have something in common: the Alpha Male. Women of all ages hoard these books and they begin dreaming about being with a dominating male. Good thing for these types of book gents, there are book ladies who can show them a thing or two on how ladies can be tough too. One excellent example is Zoey Odell.

I read Carter Ashby's "Without You Here" a couple months ago and really enjoyed it. I was excited to start this book, but was diappointed. Zoey is a really unlikeable character, and while she goes through some development over the course of the book, it was not enough change to redeem her character. Her relationship with her mother was bizarre and a bit over the top. Kellen was likeable but his relationship with Zoey seemed to lack depth. I did enjoy the secondary characters and can see where the series is going.

Stopped at 11%, Zoey just didn't make the right first impression! Didn't like her at all, there's being strong and independent, and being a b*tch, and for me Zoey was the latter! Not going to spend my time getting madder at her.

Not for me!

Zoey And The Nice Guy had an excellent potential to be a good story, but the truth is the ending disappointed me.
The Big Girl Panties series tells us the stories of three best friends and their long-winded paths to love and overcoming all the obstacles in their lives.
I liked the idea of this book and was excited to read this author. I liked the writing, but the book fell a little flat to me. Zoey was so mean to everyone around her, which got a little aggravating. Kellen was the nice guy that everyone loved, and he always put the needs of others in front of his own. The reasoning behind why Kellen came back into Zoey’s life is gruesome.
It doesn’t take long for Kellen (or the reader) to realize that Zoey’s behavior is simply there to mask her insecurities. When Zoey feels hurt or threatened, she lashes out at those she loves most.

**Trigger Warning: domestic violence
