A lovely, beautifully illustrated meditation about listening with your heart in order to realize the interconnectedness of all things. A good message well delivered.

If you are in need of a philosophical picture book, McGhee has you covered. With lyrical prose and subdued mixed media illustrations, readers are prompted to think about their connection to other people, nature, and the universe. Smell the air, which is both yours and mine. Listen with your heart, which tells your story and the stories of others. The quiet, simple nature of this book may confuse some young readers, while others will find comfort in it. It could be used as a class read aloud and enjoyed independently.

A book that celebrates our uniqueness, our shared past, and our need to listen with our hearts. Listen is a beautiful follow-up to Come With Me and I am grateful to the publisher for sharing this eloquent picture book with my reading group.

A quiet, simply illustrated book that highlights the importance of the senses and of actually paying attention to the world around us and all we experience. It’s good read aloud material for the flow and sound of the words. It also attempts to foster empathy for all people, since we share so many similar experiences that derive from our senses, though it could potentially get confusing for its audience toward the end, with the introduction of the heart and its stories.

I like the idea of this book. It's about how we are all connected to each other and the world around us. It's a reminder to slow down and pay attention. Maybe if we do, we can hear that we are all part of the same heartbeat.

Listen invites readers to cultivate mindfulness, empathy, and connection with nature by listening to their hearts. Holly M. McGhee’s text is poetic and inspiring as Pascal Lemaître’s serene watercolor illustrations portray a child exploring the outdoors alongside a little red bird. This beautiful book is perfect for children and adults alike; a well-taught lesson that—despite outward differences—we are all united.
