I wish this book were a hundred pages longer. It’s fascinating how Le Fanu was seemingly trying to preach against women’s sexuality and homosexuality yet the descriptions of closeness between Laura and Carmilla were quite beautiful. I would have loved to see more if it and more development between the characters.

Carmen Maria Machado’s edits and footnotes added so much more life to this book. The footnotes were done in a way I’ve never seen before. She addressed the reader, planted additional imagery and allusions in your head, and added stories and details which filled out the otherwise generality of the story.

Highly, highly recommend this specific edition of the book.

Quite spooky and ethereal, I was particularly taken by the homo-erotic undertones (although vampires are basically just a metaphor for sexual “deviance”) and focus on nature.

Wow, I loved this! The story was so much better than I expected. It's very simple, but well-executed and gripping, creepy, and kinda gay lol.

I was going to read the book, but I went with the audio because I saw that Rose Leslie and David Tennant were part of the cast. Great choice, I high-five myself for that because it was chef's fucking kiss.

Would never not want to listen to David Tennant's Irish accent. A decent story, amazing how this was written before Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Searching for more narrations by David, right now. Allons-y!
