A gripping and well-researched story based on Norse and Icelandic sagas. The characters are fun and fiery, and the descriptions are detailed without being clunky. I really liked it and will definitely read the one it's a companion to.

I found the beginning of this book quite slow and I thought I might be disappointed which was sad because I loved the previous book "Hush". However the further I read the more invested I became and I read the second half in a couple of hours.
The main character Brigid is very strong and I loved how she broke through conventions to live the life she needed to. In this society women and especially foreign women are treated as second class citizens but Brigid refuses to be hidden away and she continues to look for her lost sister. She faces many obstacles but she intelligently overcomes each one and ends up building great character.
This book was intense, exciting and very powerful with a lesson that you don't need to give up on a dream even if it might be very difficult.

Fin uppföljare till Hush. Intressant att man även fick följa systern. Väldigt seg i starten och långt innan något hände. Senare halvan väger dock upp med händelser. Boken har lite samma problem som Hush med att allt faller på plats och slutar idylliskt.

Like most of Napoli's works, I loved this book! I loved the characterization, the writing style, the historical aspect. However the pacing was all messed up, as the book could easily have been double the size and only gained. Everything was too rushed, ESPECIALLY the end. Once Brigid meets Alf again, everything is resolved in what, twenty pages? The entire book should have been slower and longer.

It took me a while to finish it, but well worth it I think.
