I was thoroughly impressed with this book. Wilson appraises the eating landscape of the modern day with balance, sympathy and a keen eye for statistical detail. She examines the impact of fatphobia, aggressive marketing and the post-war need for high quantities of food on how we eat and why we make the choices we do. From Huel to HelloFresh, and from economic pressures to forgotten tradition, she explores the subject in a manner which is both readable and fascinating. I found myself enraptured by this book, gobbling up chapter after chapter with an eagerness I haven’t experienced with nonfiction for a long time. I would highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in food culture - or indeed, anyone who eats (or chooses not to eat) food.
