This book was a sweet, bright spot in a mix of so-so romances and more complex reads. I wish Heiny had pushed her commentary of small town relationships and human relationships in general just slightly more - I was left feeling like there was some last bit missing - but it was funny, witty, smart, and just warm. Heiny obviously understands people - all our idiosyncrasies and foibles - and chooses to think of us fondly anyway.

Someone said this book was like a warm hug and it kind of was? Something about the pacing just worked

I'm not sure how to rate this. It's a slow-paced look at Jane's life from age 26 to her middle 40s. It's almost too slow and the plot is almost too thin, but it does manage to work. I didn't love it, but generally I enjoyed reading it.

This book was fine. For some reason, the small town elements reminded me of “Winesburg, Ohio,” one of my favorites, as it was small snippets of small town life. There was nothing spectacular or disappointing here. The book was adequately paced (although I skipped a little bit of the school section in the middle) and the characters were real. I didn’t feel a deep emotional or attachment to anyone. I feel like the words I’m saying are cold somehow and negative but the book was FINE. The kind of book where if you picked it up for a flight or in a hospital waiting room you’d be happy it was there to spend time with but when you got home, you wouldn’t be able to remember anything about it.

It was just...so boring.
