Mean people acting horrible. Or maybe horrible people acting mean.
I couldn't get past the clunky similes and my frustration with Carley being so pathetic. If I was tenacious enough to stick it out, I think the book could be quite good, but I don't have time to waste on a book that *might* end up being good.

Dagnabbit. Wrote a great review, then lost it. Curse you, "Choose shelves" button!
But: Terribly written book. Trite plot, glazed with an overtone of arrogance, an assumption that the rivers of words will work for people clever enough to appreciate them. This book needs an editor!

I’m not usually a big fiction fan, but I’m really enjoying this. It takes place in a wealthy part of Long Island. The protagonist is a rich little fat girl who gives the impression of being bored and dumb. Her parents are worried by her disinterest in school and have commissioned a fledgling novelist $25,000 to write a book according to the teenager’s specifications. It’s the girl’s Sweet Sixteen present.
It’s the kind of book that makes you ignore your children. I found it deliciously evil. (the book, not ignoring my children).

I loved, loved, loved this book. It was an easy read, but really enjoyable. At times I did feel as if the content was a bit young as the main characters are teens, but the spackling of adult characters throughout helped keeping me from falling into a nostalgic choma. I love how Gibson doesn't take herself too seriously, but manages to poke a little fun at bibliophiles, artsy people, and those who consider themselves "high class" or "low class."
Overall, I adored the characters she created and her ability to keep the story moving. Fun stuff.

Addiction, societal pressures, and learning to let go of your first love. Carley is growing up in wealthy NY and loves Hunter unconditionally. But he is coping with an addiction to pills, alcohol, and the knowledge that his love for Carley may actually be hurting her. Bree is hired by Carley's father to write her a novel and inspire a love of reading in Carley. After a rocky start, they learn from each other that you can sometimes Choose Your Own Adventure, leading to an alternative ending.
This is quite possibly the most
boring book I've read all the way to the end.
