Renewed my love of one of our greatest storytellers after "Under The Dome" stank up my nightstand. This collection of new stories is crisply told and never strays from the tried and true King equation of craft coupled with gross out when necessary, but only when absolutely, positively necessary.

Full Dark No Stars is quite intense and shows the reality of the world we live in and what happens around us without us realizing it such as rape, murder, deception, etc. It was a good read and really hits you in the face with detail. Not everyone likes short stories and that is alright but these ones flowed so well they didn't need to be long to get the point across that even the ones we think we know and love might be hiding a huge secret.

I know I'm biased because he's my favorite author, but this collection was so great! It's probably one of my favorite things I've read by him; and I liked it a lot more than some of his novels I've read.

"Unless you're the one who finds himself frozen in the iceberg of a loveless marriage."

Summer reading ALWAYS = reading some Stephen King. It always take me back to my 13 year old self - staying up to all hours of the night reading scary books and sleeping in 'til noon......

I wouldn't call this collection of short stories scary, so much as disturbing. What I love about Stephen King is that I always get lost in the story - and forget that I'm reading......

I mean this is what I get for complaining that the threatened lesbianism in rose madder is never delivered.

These stories will have you asking yourself "What would I do in their place?".

I didn't like the first story in this book of four - "1922" is about a man who kills his wife with his son as his accomplice, and is a 130-page exploration of guilt and its aftermath. A little too indulgent for me... but the other three stories were pretty good. There's the usual one about making a deal with the devil to prolong your life, one about rape, and one about 'a good marriage'. Nothing too original, but King manages to write in a compelling manner, and I love the little details he puts in - like how a woman, when driving her car surreptitiously into a hidden spot, lifts her butt off the seat a little, as though it would help her. He also manages to introduce a twist or two here and there, though I am not a fan of those twists (I prefer him giving it straight), nor the gruesome detail he injects into his tales.

But this is 'full dark' after all, and it's King...

3.5 stars.
