âIf you can learn to endure pain, you can survive anything. Some people learn to embrace itâto love it. Some endure it through drowning it in sorrow, or by making themselves forget. Others turn it into anger. But Ansel let her pain become hate, and let it consume her until she became something else entirelyâa person I donât think she ever wished to beâ
âAs the memory of that day echoed through her, she remembered the words Sam kept screaming at Arobynn, as the King of the Assassins beat her, the words that she'd somehow forgotten in the fog of pain: I'll kill you! Sam had said it like he meant it. He'd bellowed it, again and again and again...â
âShe ran when she could and walked when she couldn't, but the sun rose higher and higher, toward that dangerous noontime peak. Up one hill, down the other. One foot in front of the next. Bright flashes flitted across her vision, and her head pounded.
The red sand shimmered, and she draped her arms over the yoke. Her lips became filmy, cracking in places, and her tongue turned leaden in her mouth.â
âShe looked to the open window, to the world beyond. For the first time in a long while, she heard the song of a northern wind, calling her home. And she was not afraid.â

This "novella" broke my heart. I really really loved this whole entire story, and I seriously wish that the Silent Assassins would show up in the main novels. I just loved them, and I really loved the Master. He is everything that Arobynn is not, and everything Celaena deserved. Imagine how she would have turned out if she had been half dead on HIS doorstep. She'd be a better person I think. Loved it, and I loved the twist with Ansel. Poor Ansel, I can't help but feel sorry for her.
