I’ve had beef with organized religion, and especially the Catholic Church, for a long time. The fact that this book is about a Catholic priest abandoning his vows for a pretty potential parishioner had initially steered me clear of reading it but the TikTok reviews about the spice had piqued my curiosity. This book is so steamy — mostly because there is so much of it that is taboo or not allowed. The God stuff I could take or leave —- but the spicy parts? Gimme a bunch more of that. 🔥

Why did I even finish that book?

It was just bad. I know it's my fault for choosing this, but I wouldn't have thought that the crash between spice and church would be THAT bad. Spicy Scenes and praying at the same time? Why? Also without bible knowledge a lot of passages don't make a lot of sense.

I kinda liked Poppy so I don't want to give the worst score... but Tyler? It felt like the author thought: "Mhmm... I need a Hobby to not just make him a cut out flat figurine... Ah let him just mention The Walking Dead a lot and that's it."

Also. The thing with his sister.
Spoiler I wanted to read a spicy book with some romance... why did the sister had to be abused and had to commit suicide?
It was just sad and didn't add something to the story. It's a story about a priest "falling in love".... why add so much trauma?

And the end felt just absolutely unnecessary.
Spoiler The months apart. Him going travelling. The search.
I can live with obvious endings. Of course. But unnecessarily spaced out... just to make the book a bit longer? No, thank you.

The only thing about the ending was a bit of her POV and that it was finally the ending.

Outside of fanfiction, this is one of the filthiest things I’ve ever read. The things they do in this book
SpoilerON THE ALTAR?????
are deranged and I loved it. However, I felt like there were some missed opportunities for plot. We don’t really get to delve into their characters outside of the smut, and I think it could given us more of a reason to like them as individuals. It definitely would gave made the sex hotter if we’d seen some growth happening too. Perhaps this is a lot to  ask for a filthy, taboo romance, but if you’re interested in some taboo Shenanigans, you’ve come to the right place

first off, the main piece of personality we get from the mmc is that he is a priest and that he likes the walking dead. the fmc has NO personality whatsoever. the writing also isn’t great in general. the 130 year old woman was the only character i liked and she had about 10 sentences total. i was so looking forward to this book and it was so popular on booktok but it does not live up to the hype at all and i was incredibly disappointed.
