I’d been meaning to read this for forever, and today was finally the day! I’m glad I did. Gailey’s writing is witty and hauntingly real. And the art was perfect! I loved the way the text moved with the panels.

I so enjoy this horror renaissance where the villain is society, the rich, corporations, politicians, the media, and previous generations. I love to see protagonists stand up to capitalism and tradition and spit in its face.

Fuck the bourgeoise. Eat the rich. Vive la révolution!

Be smart about it. You have two options. It's me, or it's nothing.

Much like other reviewers have noted, the story is really on the nose and the ending is rushed. Nevertheless, it's an enjoyable creepy romp with some great dialogue and a single most hilarious, absurdly funny scene I've ever laughed at in horror: that proposal! Like. All that tension, and suddenly, the ring, and then even more tension. You've got to read it.

In terms of characters, I liked Petal, and I saw a lot of potential in Astor. It's a shame his arc fell flat so soon—it would've been nice if the story played harder into that angle where he didn't really agree with what his family was doing. If he was a bit more on Joey's side, but eventually chose his own, or something to that effect. Joey herself mostly annoyed me until she sprung into explosive action at the end, but I didn't quite buy her switch from passivity to decisiveness.

Mostly, I felt like the story was a little underdeveloped, but there were still some great moments!

Just kind of boring. Needed to be a longer comic series or a book.

While I think it's a good comic to introduce people to like, the ideas of how the rich perpetuate oppression and such, I don't know that it's necessarily that nuanced. Like I said when I first read it, the ending feels rushed in a Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of Harley Quinn) kind of way, which is to say that it spends a lot of time setting up scenarios only for it to end in a very rushed way which, while admittedly satisfying, doesn't really do much beyond that.

This graphic novel is great! It talks about how gross the rich can be and has sci fi twists and turns in it. The ending is very satisfying and I love the theme. Totally a must read if you’re the 99%. ❤️
