I really wanted to like this book because it is written about the inter-wars era, and it's an era I usually find interesting. I might return to it in the future, but compared to The Paris Wife which I really liked, this just didn't compare. I found the writing a little stilted, and I just didn't feel any desire to continue reading.

A fictionalized account of the deterioration of each of Hemingway's marriages, Mrs. Hemingway is a beautiful story of nostalgia and dying love. I appreciated Wood's sympathetic yet honest portrayal of Ernest Hemingway and his wives, and I admire her simple, accessible writing style. A great choice if you're looking for a beach read with some substance to it--but be warned that you might not be able to put it down!

This book got such rave reviews, I was sure I would love it. At best, I liked it. Hemingway and his 4 wives were such flawed characters. Reading about their egocentric and messy lives was somewhat depressing.

I was drawn to this book having read "The Paris Wife." It is a quick read and a good story. My problem with the book is how Wood constructs the telling of each wife's story by starting each at the end of their respective relationship with Hemingway. This has the effect of showing the worst side of their characters, and seems to validate their individual stories only in-so-much as they relate to HIS story. Hadley is a much fuller-bodied character in "The Paris Wife" and I believe that each woman would have had the same chance to captivate if their story where their own. While true that these women are remembered in history because of their connection to Hemingway, each were dynamic women living in their own time and context. Still, I am glad to have read it.
