I can tell from reading this that the author has a passion for Star Wars. She has done Ahsoka justice with this story, as she has filled in gaps not rewritten what already exists. The story picks up after the Clone Wars but before Season 6 of the animated tv show of the same name. Her mannerisms match who she is in the show but with more maturity after seeing so much loss and war.
Spoilerlays out the foundation for Fulcrum and her white lightsabers
. There is also a hint of queerness in this story which is refreshing. Not saying who that may involve of course as it is minute to the story.

This is a great book that shows how Ahsoka went from how we saw her at the end of the Clone Wars to how we saw her in Rebels.  It touches on the internal conflict she is having because of Order 66 and we see how she works through it.

The beginning is no longer cannon with SW:TCW season 7. Good tie into the Rebels tv show.

4.5

4.5 stars: I loved this book a lot but it's not necessarily a favourite

Characters: 1 star
Plot: 0.5 star
Worldbuilding: 1 star
Pacing: 1 star
Conflict: 1 star
Bonus/deductions: none! this book is perfect and is maybe not a favourite but gave me some of the best quotes and all of the Star Wars content I was craving.
Total: 4.5 stars

My expectations:
No cause we all knew this was coming, to be honest, I loved this book, and it really did live up to its expectations.

Characters:
  • Ahsoka: Ahsoka is, non-arguably, the best Jedi (for legal reasons this is a joke, she isn't even a Jedi but). She is an icon, truly and I think she is one of the most complex and amazing characters in this universe. She is so selfless and has the best moral compass I've ever seen. She means a lot to me so I'm glad I got to read a multiple hundred-page book about her and everything she's been through because frankly, it's a lot. This girl is 17 and has gone through a war... that would mess up anyone. and, she literally got accused of murder and shunned from the Jedi order. anyway, yeah she's perfect and I love her and will defend her with my life.
  • Kaeden: HELLO??? She is perfect, stunning, and a canon sapphic? Get out of here she's my new book girlfriend and also coincidentally my new Star Wars girlfriend. Anyway, Kaeden deserves the world. All the shit she's been through, it's really intense. My poor girl, literally raised her little sister when she was just a teen. And then the empire comes and it all gets worse for her. I feel so bad for her, I just really want to hug her.
  • Miara: Okay, she is really precious. Which I know is kinda weird of me to say since she is my age but we're gonna pretend that's not the case. She is so sweet and she cares so much for Kaeden and I love that so much. We rarely get to see powerful sister duos where the younger one is the most defensive of the other. Also, Miara really does (I went to do something else before finishing this sentence and I've completely forgotten what I wanted to say so instead get this incomplete sentence :D )
  • Guest appearances: There were so many guest appearances??? Like we got flashbacks from Obi-Wan, lots of references to clones and Rex mostly,
SpoilerBail was in a huge chunk of the book
, and baby Leia was in a scene! It was incredible and I'm so glad we got to see all of them, even if some of them were in pretty sad conditions.

Ships:
  • Ahsoka x Kaeden: They are actually perfect for each other! I feel like Ahsoka needs someone who isn't a Jedi or a politician to help guide her through life. I just really like the way they both learn a lot from each other and learn to work together quickly and it just seems like they were made to be a couple! Also, I'd always seen Ahsoka as a bisexual so I don't know, this just fits perfectly in my head.

Deaths:
There were a lot of deaths, but to be honest I can't really remember everyone that died's name. That might be because I technically took a two and a half week break from reading this book while I was on a trip but also I just don't think most of the side characters were really impactful.

Fave character:
Honestly, I'm not sure. Usually filling this section out I have a clear favourite but to be honest, all the characters in this book were lovable. I think I have to say Ahsoka because she was already one of my favourite characters but Kaeden is a close second.

Plot:
The plot of this book is honestly the only part of it that was lacklustre. I just felt like there wasn't much happening, even though I could clearly see what was coming in the next few chapters. Anyway, it was still very enjoyable and I loved the plot-focused chapters.

Worldbuilding:
Now, this book does get a free worldbuilding point because of course, it's set in the Star Wars universe and as we know, I love said Star Wars universe.

Pacing:
The pacing was, in my opinion, perfect. It kept me engaged and wanting more, especially since the chapters were short and often divided by flashbacks. Speaking of, the flashbacks were amazing and definitely added to the experience this book is.

Conflict:
The conflict was actually pretty fun, it has the same vibe that The Bad Batch has where it's just them running from the Empire and trying to save people as they go. The fact that the opponent to Ahsoka was who it was, really made the stakes higher and was really interesting.

Other notes:
Here are a couple of passages that i liked, made me laugh or cry, SPOILERS AHEAD:

It probably would have gone better if Anakin were with her.

She really, really missed R2-D2.

She felt the full power of the Force flow through her, and she welcomed it.
