This was difficult to listen to and it is difficult to write a review/put a rating on someone's trauma but I feel like it is an important memoir that sheds more light on abuse, addiction, mental health and Hollywood.

I think anyone who grew up watching iCarly, or Nickelodeon at all, should take the time to read through this book. I think that as we’ve grown and matured, we’ve realized truths about the world that we were once kept sheltered from with colorful TV and characters wielding a sock filled with a stick of butter. But none of that is real, and it never has been, and the more we learn the more clear everything becomes. The brutality behind the making of a childhood sat in front of the TV, reciting theme songs word for word and laughing along with the same jokes each episode does not leave anyone unscathed—not even us.
So read this. Because we’re not little kids anymore, and the world is a place we have to live in.
Jennette put her heart and soul into this memoir, and it’s one of the bravest things I’ve witnessed. I’m proud to have grown up alongside her, to have learned and lived through these years just as she did. And I’m glad she had the courage to share, and to inspire future readers to come.

This was my first autobiography that I read in awhile. I loved that Jeanette could open up about her story. It was very sad that she was treated that way though.

This memoir is wonderful. The audiobook read by Jennette gave it another dimension.
I feel so proud of her.
Living in Europe though I did not know her nor did I watch Nickelodeon. It was therefor probably a bit less impactful for me than for people who did know her.
However she talks with such vulnerability about all of what has happened to her and about her childhood in such an eloquent way. It has had a big impact on me. Truly beautiful!

The audio is a must! Jennette's narration is just as powerful as her story. I loved getting to hear the truth behind her very public teen years and acting career.

It’s really heart breaking reading this. The child acting business, and all the cruelties Jennette McCurdy had to endure, are so unfathomable and horrifying, yet Jennette McCurdy does a great job at somehow making it relatable. I would strongly recommend listening to this via audiobook instead of reading it because I think the emotion comes through really well.
