I've read a few Simone St. James books and enjoyed them so I added this one blindly to a recent Book Outlet order. ✅
In 1919, 21 year old Kitty Weekes is desperate to stay away from her home and find a job that she can live on. She discovers a nursing position at Portis House, a remote hospital for men who've had a hard time adjusting since they left the Great War. But Portis House wasn't always a hospital, it started as a mansion that a family called home. Nobody knows what happened to the family, but they're gone now. Or are they?
This was ok. There were parts that kept my attention, and parts that didn't. I had a hard time keeping the patients straight for some reason.

Underwhelming ending and not super spooky but I liked the cast of characters and felt invested in their wellbeing

I really enjoyed this, a haunting, suspenseful ghost story. I might be biased because I always love a haunted manor and that's exactly what this gave me.
