It is unfair of me to judge the main mystery having watched the show, so I won't. I did appreciate that the side mysteries came together well, although are much darker than in the show, and she is really collecting that found family

I didn't realize this was the 3rd in the series. It was still great, and I didn’t feel I was missing anything. I plan to go back and read the rest of the series. The read itself was atmospheric, and the characters were intriguing.

This one was solid, it's a bit darker than the episode they based off it. It's funny because I'm reading through the lens of having seen the show and I just keep waiting
for there to be some sexual tension between Det. Ins. Robinson and Phryne! Surely that wasn't a complete invention of the show?? I'd be so disappointed. But then it's quite a slow burn in the show so it might be a slow burn in the books as well.
Guess we'll see!

Phryne remains delightful, but for someone who doesn't care for children, she adopted quite easily, didn't she. And 'bitch' was thrown around surprisingly casually by several characters, not just the ones you might anticipate it from, which I always find offputting.
