i’ve always been fascinated with pirate stories at sea, and was not disappointed with this one.
this is a slow paced but addicting story of family drama, politics and horrible decisions. no character is safe, and everytime one little good thing happens, disaster follows.
i didn’t connect with the story as much as the farseer trilogy, but i’m very intrigued and excited to continue on with the liveship trilogy!

Ship of Magic is an absolutely infuriating tome of a novel. I loved every page. The characters are so believably written and the world is so detailed and immersive that the prominence of talking boats could scarcely make me doubt the epigraph “based on a true story,” had it been there.

I LOVE THIS WORLD. I haven't made it through all the books set in the world, but I really love the detail and care Hobb obviously put into it. This book made me laugh and cry. Hobb has a way of writing that reaches right into the soul. While reading, I could relate to aspects of each character, even the bad guys. If you are just starting your exploration of Hobb's work, get ready to ask yourself hard questions and feel big emotions.
