Under the Stars is fine. Georgia and Maddox are a sweet couple, but their story as a couple lacks depth. Even utilising first person narration, this book fails to adequately describe their feelings. Instead, we are just told, flatly, how they feel. There is no lead up to it, and it makes their relationship feel both fast and fake.

As always, I love the Reynolds family so I’m interested to see where each characters ends up. I just hope they each have a more exciting story than Georgia.

I love Georgia and Maddox, I think they are so realistic and multi-faceted.

The mental illness / trauma rep in Maddox was brilliant, the understanding and kindness of Georgia is refreshing and fun. Georgia is one of the most lovable FMCs of all time, there is not a single thing I disliked in her.

Overall, I love the pacing, and there were plenty of scenes to make this relationship feel real. I absolutely adore this family and this couple.

(For the 3rd act breakup haters like myself, there is no breakup just conflict outside[?] of the main couple)

I’d always kept my private life private, but that was easy because I didn’t have anything I card about before now.

📚 First person dual POV
📚 Second in a series that can be read as stand-alone
📚 Workplace romance / forced proximity
📚 Billionaire publisher / Assistant
📚 Sunshine grump
📚 Friends with benefits to lovers
📚 Possessive MMC
📚 Nicknames!
📚 Well established secondary characters: Hugh & Lila (Book 1), Brinkley (Book 2), Finn (Book 4), Cage (Book 5), Gracie 😍, Wyle.
📚 MC growth: overcoming past trauma, risking a relationship.
📚 Epilogue

⚠️ Death of a parent, ALS references, medical trauma/content (moderate), injury/injury detail (moderate), blood, parental abandonment (past).

Since moving his family publishing company's headquarters from San Francisco to the small town of Cottonwood Cove, billionaire Maddox Lancaster has had a tough time finding an executive assistant who can meet his exacting standards. He's sure that the latest candidate, recent college graduate Georgia Reynolds, will be just like all the others, but the friction between them from the moment she steps into his office is unlike anything he's ever experienced before. Despite himself, grumpy Maddox is fascinated by sunshine Georgia and can't help wanting to protect her. Her position as his employee makes her off-limits, however. As Maddox and Georgia continue to work closely together, how long will they be able to resist the pull of the attraction between them?

I loved the first book of this series, but "Under the Stars" was even better. Maddox was so sweet beneath his outer layers of grump, and the fact that he only allowed that side of himself to come out when he was with Georgia made it even better. There was a bit of angst to this story due to Maddox's difficult family situation, as well as an unexpected twist that had me glued to my Kindle just waiting to find out what would happen next. I could not have been more addicted to this story, and honestly I was sad when it was over.

I highly recommend "Under the Stars" for all contemporary romance fans and can't wait to find out what's to come in the next book of the series.

I just adore Laura Pavlov’s books and this one is no different! Under the Stars offers up great banter, chemistry, pining, sweetness, and spice all in the backdrop of a cozy small town workplace romance. I loved Georgia and Maddox. She balances him out and both of them really wanted to be what the other needed. I appreciated the baggage that Maddox had to confront and think that it was handled really well. Also enjoyed that there wasn’t  a traditional third act breakup. I couldn’t put this book down and am already dying to read the next book in this series. Definitely recommend for fans of grumpy (but sweet) billionaires!
