I think my favorite part of this was reading Tori Amos' thoughts on death. They resonated with me. Gaiman's Sandman series is sure to deliver every time and this series starring Death is no exception. The PSA about AIDS and safer sex at the end of the book was also well done.

Once a century, Death takes on mortal form so that she may better understand the lives that she takes. This isn't really her story, though, although it's about her. Rather, the story focuses on a young man she encounters while he stands on the brink of suicide. Not believing her story, he nevertheless gets drawn into a world of a charming young woman with a love of life no one else can match. It's a sweet tale, and a worthy sidebar to the other tales of the Endless.

Ah, a truly satisfying story. Wish I had read this before 'Death - The Time of your Life' which was also good but this one is just way better. Once every century, Death takes on human mortality only for a day so that she knows what its like to have it taken away. Brilliant story arc, illustrations, layout and conversations. Death and sexton are absolutely captivating and extremely quotable characters. :)

This wasn’t part of my Sandman reread 1) because it’s not part of the main series and 2) because I’d never read it before. I loved this. All the reasons I love Death, and this series’ ruminations on hope, plus a wonderfully dated (and delightful) safe sex PSA at the end. What more could you want?

Interestingly (well to me anyway) Death was my introduction to Neil Gaiman back in the early 90s. It was nice to revisit the stories after all these years, but the stories (at least in this volume) are lacking in complexity and character development compared to the other material I've read from Mr. Gaiman. They're perfectly fine, and well drawn and colored, but knowing what Mr. Gaiman is capable of, they're not my favorite among his work.

A Wonderful comic with the ever lovely and humorous death reminding us that life is worth living, if even just for the hot-dogs.
