I liked this one a lot better than The Midwife and the Orc. Yes, there was still a touch of miscommunication, but it was incidental to the plot rather than central to it. The Governess and the Orc was driven by secrets, revenge, and a longing for family and home. It was a bit on the long side and dragged in a few places, but overall, I had a really great time reading it.

Read it if you like monster romance with regency vibes and:
-fake relationship
-reluctant allies
-revenge plots
-longing for home

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!! This is my first foray into the OrcSworn series, but I am definitely here to stay. I got this book on sale and figured that even though it was technically pretty deep into the series that I would just give it a try and I am so glad I did. Just to start off the story is written in third person limited(?) which is objectively my favorite perspective to read from - everything was so polished and well thought out. Geva may be one of my all-time favorite FMCs - she's smart, competent, kind, charismatic - just absolutely perfect. She knows her boundaries and stands firm in her decisions.
I just loved her strength and her ability to change the lives of those around her for the better. Getting to tackle Rathgarrs deeply embedded trauma was hard but so cathartic at the end to watch just how completely his community helped him heal. Getting to explore the different ways people respond to and address trauma - her learning to separate herself, while he fixates and lashes out was very realistic and showed just how deep their trust and love ran
. I cried multiple times throughout this book - not only was the writing excellent but the character work was just so deeply moving to me. I absolutely loved the world-building done here. The locations, processes, and people involved were just extraordinary - the way the author goes about the descriptions made it feel like I was truly there in Orc Mountain! I especially loved the background characters - Abjorn and Sigarr particularly and really enjoyed that even though this story focused on a specific couple, those closest to them got some development as well. I just cannot gush enough about how much I loved this story and how well-written I found it. I loved every single second of reading this book and can not wait to begin working through the entirety of the series! I would recommend this story to everyone interested in monster romances, fantasy settings, and complex relationships.

Immediately after finishing this book, I signed up for the author's newsletter and socials - which I totally recommend to everyone getting into these books!!

I love fake dating and enemies to lovers and was immediately in love with Geva, but as the story progressed, I slowly got this feeling deep in my gut that this book was going to have one of my biggest squicks. I went searching for spoilers and yep… I was right. I couldn’t keep reading for my sanity. So, take this DNF as the result of my particular tastes and not as something wrong with the book. I am a little sad, NGL, because I was getting very invested in Geva and her story. Oh, well… Different strokes for different folks :)
