This book has changed my life.

I try to be careful with how I allow Christian books to impact me as the only Christian book I should be putting my energy into changing me is, well… the Bible. But, I am thankful I finally read Remember God. It challenged me in ways I wasn’t ready for. I love getting an inside look into how other people approach their relationship with God. I think it’s important for us as readers to see other people struggle with how they view God. Because if you as a Christian have never struggled with your relationship with God or have never had moments of doubt, it’s coming. But what I noticed throughout this book was at every turn where Annie struggled, she was still holding tight to what she did know about God. And I needed to see that in action.
I am so very thankful for this book.

"We can be in the wilderness and be fed. Those two realities are not mutually exclusive. Life can be painful and beautiful at the exact same time. Scripture says He will bring us 'into the wilderness' and 'speak tenderly' to us (Hosea 2:14)."

This was such a meaningful and important book for me. Annie shares a lot of her own story and walks the reader through so many moments of her own struggles and intimate relationship with the Lord. It definitely feels like a friend sharing a big part of their life with you. I found it so moving and picked it up at just the right time for Annie's story to really connect with my own.

I listened to the audiobook at the recommendation of a friend. (I’m a sucker for authors narrating their own books.) My favorite line was when Annie said, “Jesus saved me once but He rescues me all the time.” It was a quick listen and a beautiful reminder of God’s everlasting kindness and faithfulness. Three and a half stars.

I wish I could give this 2.5 stars. It was more than okay, but I haven't decided whether or not I liked it. I'm not really sure what I just read, to be honest. It was like a really long blog post that didn't have an actual ending. I was actually thinking about proposing a book club at my church with this book, but I won't use this one now. I think it's written for a very specific audience (women who are struggling with being single... or perhaps with not having a child). If you don't fall into one of those two categories, it's going to be very hard for you to identify with this book. Maybe that's why I can't bring myself to give it three stars - I just don't think it appeals to a wide enough audience. I would only recommend this to a very specific person who was going through some very specific hard times. I've never read any other of Annie Downs' books, but I LOVE her podcast and follow her on Instagram. I think she's an amazing speaker. This book would make for an interesting TED Talk, I think. I will say it was very nice to read this during Advent.

This is Annie’s story of discovering that God is truly kind, despite circumstances. The book describes one of the darkest seasons of Annie’s life during which her faith took a hit.

I began reading the book in expectation that its main point would be to encourage the reader to learn who God really is, sharing what Annie has learned coming out of the darkness. Instead it read like a memoir, coming from Annie’s heart before she got all the answers she wanted. She admits that she did not have a pretty answer, a neat way end to the story. Annie is incredibly brave to share such a raw part of her heart and life. But she does so in an effort to say, “Me, too.” She takes us along and doesn’t wait to have it all figured out before sharing with the world. She doesn’t claim to have the answers. She now knows who her God really is and has placed before us this book as her testimony, as a way of pointing back to Him and gently urging us to find out for ourselves just how good and kind He is all along.

Loved her rawness, candor, honesty. As I read the book I remembered how God does not work on out timeline but always comes through when we least expect it AND better than we could have imagined. Nothing He places in our life is happenstance. Encouraged by this book. Easy read. Not steeped in Scripture but reads more like a memoir. My first book by her but listen to her podcast and will pick another of her books up and give it a chance!

Really loved the way that Annie listens for God’s voice and how His timing guides her life. I wish there was more of a coherent message to the book - found it a little all over the place - but glad I gave it a read!

I love Annie and I am so grateful for her stories. This is beautifully vulnerable and so relatable. I hope that I ,too, can say about my journey, “I would do it all again for who I have found You to be.”
