A cynical, hilarious, incredulous view into Upper East Side society through the eyes of the nanny. I picked this up at Strands for 48 cents since I had (guiltily) enjoyed the movie. Although the plot is more or less the same, the book is a harsher commentary on the lives of the rich and privileged Manhattan society 'mothers'. Even though the situations are exaggerated (I hope), I can see the grains of truth in people I know on the edges of that world.

A nannying account that made me cringe! This was March's fluff reading :) I don't know if this is a style I could read much of.. The tension & frustrations in the story stressed me out, and the protag. seemed like a pushover when it came to communicating with her employer. I wanted to help her deal with life with a little more backbone, but alas dear reader, you are only here to witness, not to help. I wavered between 3 & 4 stars.

It's been ages since I read this but I've stored it on my favorites shelf for years so I'm giving it 4 stars. I've been progressively becoming more of a minimalist and finally letting go of books. Books should be read and this one is just gathering dust.

What I learned from this book? Well, for one thing, working as a nanny really sucks. Add to that the fact that your bosses are arrogant rich New Yorkers and your job becomes hell.

I just watched the movie and it was terrible. I remember the book as being much more enjoyable. It was a quick read and I think I enjoyed it mostly because I like children and have spent a lot of time working with them both as a teacher and as a nanny/babysitter. I can relate to the situations in this story but I really hated the movie.
