"For the rest of their lives, the girls would have to keep looking over their shoulders. It was the reason why slain villains in horror movies popped back up, still alive — because there would always be another man waiting to cause harm. It would never end. The girls would never truly be safe."

Has this ever been articulated so clearly?

I've had this hardcover (signed and dedicated!!!) on my shelf since its release in 2021 and neglected it till now. It's fine.

I knew Steph Perkins would deliver us another banger horror story after There's Someone Inside Your House. There were so many compelling parts, and I was literally gagging listening to the descriptions of broken bones. Josie and Neena's friendship felt so familiar and the tension between them rang so true.

This book is:
Part Lost Girls of Panama
Part 127 Hours
Part Cabin in the Woods
Part Other Scary Movies I Avoid Because I'm A Baby
And an absolutely compelling thrill ride.

Stay out of the forest, y'all. Read this book instead.

My god, I want my money back.
Don't expect anything more than petty friend drama and 'men are terrifying aaa'  from this. The book broadly uses things that simply on their own make not much more than a shallow experience.
If you want to read a book about 'men are swines and scare and kill women', then this is for you. Though honestly, I think we all know this by now, don't we?

I enjoyed the descriptions of thr girls relationship and their attempts at hiking for the first time. The actual plot, climax, and denouement is really unrealistic and uninspired. One dimensional villainy. It was a breeze to read through though.

Two girls who know nothing about the outdoors decide to go backpacking, fight the entire time, then get chased by stereotypical "evil hillbillies" who want to SA and kill them. This was an aggravating read and I wish I DNF-ed it

SPECTACULAR!!!! This book was absolutely gripping. The first 100 pages seem long and pointless but they place wonderful hints that you don’t notice until after the book. This book was gory, horrifying, and gripping. I could not put it down. I will remember this book and ‘There’s Someone Inside Your House’ with the egg timer. This book is so remarkably unique and I’m intrigued and terrified to see what else Stephanie Perkins cooks up!

Book was horribly written the start of the book is just whiny teenagers going on a hike before college. The author took forever to even get to what the story is about. Basically you might as well just watch the hills have eyes because that’s 10x better then this book. The author completely tried to go for the Hills have Eyes plot and failed miserably.
