Child abuse doesn't quite cover it. "Child harm" or "child pain" is very graphic.emilyexley's review against another edition

Highly recommend the audiobook version. Of course the narration by the author adds a lot to it, but the recording of that extinct bird near the end honestly made me emotional.

this was completely incidental so this review is biased, but I picked up this book at exactly the right time in my life. my meds make it difficult for me to cry but I needed to and this book yanked the tears right out of me. and even though it came to me at the right moment, it's also a book I know I can return to later for comfort; john green shares the same kind of specific, existential anxiety that I do, and so I find this work soothing. they're frank, but kind and patient and passionate, and they're written in language that's easy to follow. thanks john green!
