Many things are wrong with the world and this book explores all of them. Well, the morality of animal testing and radical activism, the dangers of technology, how corporate evil infiltrates our lives, and worst of all, how badly academia in Finland sucks. The author is so critical of his home country and its people (who will not meet your eye or talk to you unless it is to blurt out racist sentiments) that I was surprised to learn it won the country's fanciest literary prize. It's ambitious and the author is clearly passionate about the many, many wrongs he rails against. The characters are strong, and the relentless Finn-bashing has its comical moments, but the novel overflows with too many ideas that are only surface-deep.

Very very detailed. Will make you think a lot about society; how we function as individuals & as a whole. Though the ending left me hanging a bit, and there were many many mini plot lines that did not get resolved as well as I would have liked (iAm devices, the medication aspect, what they both did or did not have to do with Samuel). I enjoyed reading it for the most part, and liked that the copy I picked up had a list of books by non English writing authors at the end to explore. Made me consider a bit more how I spend my own time with social media, how to source true information on the internet, and what a good, true source really is. A lot of food for thought here!

Knyga nustebino.
