Put it down and didn't feel like picking it up again. Too unrelentingly grim.

The characters were strong, but the setting and story development lacked conviction. I spent most of the book waiting for something to happen

despite its multiple glaring flaws, this book (a) entertained me and (b) was at least original.

now i must ask: to the people in these reviews who keep referring to this book as "YA" — what the fuck are you smoking???

This book is so hard to review. On one hand, I loved it! I loved the world and the magic. The lovely descriptions of clothing and people were enjoyable. I got lost in the pages and it was such a beautiful distraction. On the other hand, most, if not all of the characters weren't very likable and I found myself not really caring what happened to them, with the exception of Judah. I felt like this book was 569 pages of not very much happening that made sense or that I was fully invested in. Finally, this may seem unfair, but with the way it ended, if that is the complete end and there is no sequel, then this book feels like it was a whole lot of nothing. IF there is going to be a sequel, then I'm all for it and will dive back into Judah's world willingly. Please let there be a sequel!!!
