Please seek out diverse perspectives.
This is an intense collection of trauma, trauma of being a woman and growing into womanhood, immigration and the struggle to survive emotionally, spiritually and physically.

insanely beautiful poems, especially when read by the author herself. I loved the 'Are You There God?' section the most.

A book about leaving home, becoming a woman, cannibalism, female genital mutilation and so much more. I love to hear her read her poems aloud. She brings life to her poetry. Glad for the glossary in the back of the book to help understand the terminology used. Some of the poetry is sad and some uplifting. No one can pull this type of poetry collection off except Warsan Shire.

This collection was so damn good. Some of the poems are legit haunting. Also what Shire does with images (creating & communicating them), and form is remarkable.

Even though I don’t get poetry n’ maybe not the best person to say anything constructive, this was just beautiful yet haunting to read!!
