As a writer and a fan of supportive networks, I love the concept of this book.
There’s a push and pull for Poppy, both a framework around her to grasp onto while she leaps into her true heart’s desire and rip currents (internal and external) that make it easy to lose her footing and head for an easier life.
That’s being a writer, in a nutshell.
Add in a beautiful setting, interesting characters, familial complications, and a potential love story, and it’s a thoughtful, uncomfortable, hopeful ride.
CONTENT WARNINGS:
Main character deals with deeply ingrained body issues (fatness = bad things) throughout the book. There is also an attempted sexual assault (lack of consent aggressively ignored).

I am so disappointed. On paper this looked like a book I would love, relatable lead, self-discovery, a sweet love story and a nice setting. But Poppy, our main character, was so infuriatingly unlikeable, the character growth (Poppy and her mother) felt fake and unearned, the love story was flat, and the ending was beyond cheesy. Plus it was very heavy handed with the messages it was trying to get across. The location was nice and some of the supporting characters were fun but sadly that wasn’t enough to make up for the things I didn’t like.

Free book, review is my own.
Book had some major problems but I get where the author was going and the plot itself was cute and entertaining.
