Maybe it's the translation but the writing is extremely boring and I can't understand a thing that's happening unless I see for another translation online

out of everything by kafka i’ve read, this is the only one i feel almost indifferent towards.
we follow 16 year old Karl on his way to america, after his parents sent him away for being seduced by a 35 year old maid, getting her pregnant. (kafka nails writing this in its full disturbing nature)
he falls into a innocent admiration towards this stoker, who is facing wrongful discrimination. they go to captains office essentially, in which karl finds out that one of the men in the room is his uncle. his uncle isn’t just anyone though, he’s a senator!
karl understands he has to follow his uncle, the people opposing the stoker, and weeps in guilt apologizing profusely.
the reason i feel so indifferent towards this short story is because while most kafkaesque themes seem present in this story— they just aren’t. this story just feels more like an adventure than anything meaningful.
karl is one of kafka’s best characters though, the boyish innocence was very sweet and lovable.
it’s not bad, it just wouldn’t come anywhere near my favorite kafka writings.

Abit odd, and abit random but I kinda vibed with it.
A pretty straightforward story I would say.
Sometimes I think Kafka's stories however short hold meaning and deeper theories that I probably can't read into very well

I like the story but I didn't like that we don't know what happened with the stoker at the end. I am happy for Karl though
