Multiple perspectives but none given enough depth to give them value, everything felt quite shallow and ruined by the constant references to contemporary gossip; would have worked very well in its original format as newspaper serial but very poor in book form 40 years later. The plot feels made up as it goes along and serious issues are mentioned then swept away without the focus they deserve. Terrible blind siding plot twist near the end that is then moved on from as if it's all okay when I have so many angry questions
Moderate: Suicide
Minor: Child abuse
