celaena: i generally like her but sometimes she's kind of annoying, at the beginning when she kept saying all the ways she could kill people i was like "is this satire or...." but she grew on me
chaol: my fave character! i liked that he was kind of bitch but u could see his soft spots shining thru, it felt like he was kind of conflicted the whole time which i liked
dorian: lowkey kind of a pussboy but there's nothing really to Hate about him, he's just kinda meh rn
overall this book was pretty good, though it got a bit repetitive like halfway through and i felt like i was just reading the same scenes over and over again. oh and i love nehemia she's kind of slaying the game
Minor: Death, Drug abuse, Gore, Violence, Blood, Death of parent, and Murder

I'm starting this series re-read because the last time I read the Throne of Glass series Tower of Dawn was just about to come out, so the farthest I've ever made it is the end of Empire of Storms. We'll see how well the rest of the series holds up after seven years!

The beginning of this book does have its annoyances. It took me a while to get into this style. It’s in 3rd person, but it’s like SJM wanted to show us some of those deep, inner-thought insights like she did in ACoTaR. They seem a little off or forced in some places because we’re NOT inside the character’s head…
With that being said, once you do get through some of the world building I actually found this book to move FASTER than the ACoTaR series because it is a little more plot driven without those long inner monologues. It does feel like it takes longer as a reader to feel connected to Celaena without her thoughts - especially if you read this book first. In hindsight, I wish I had started with Assassins Blade!
There are definitely parts where the writing seems… a little unedited…? I know it’s her first series/book so maybe it’s just that? (The rest of the series doesn’t come off that way to me- just this book.)
There are a lot of loveable characters in here - and of course a few you love to hate! I’m excited to read book 2 😁
