This book was so creepy and atmospheric, I absolutely loved it. This is definitely the best story of the series so far, and the twist at the end topped it all.
The setting of the story, the woods, were absolutely terrifying, and I loved that the ending only answered some of the questions, so a lot of the creepy occurrences in those woods are left to the imagination…
While the book had excellent horror elements, it also dealt with some topical issues, such as domestic abuse and controlling relationships. I thought this was done really well and sensitively, it really showed how things like this can be hidden so well and you should never assume.
The ending was my favourite part. The whole way through the book, I knew there was something more to the story, but it was like a faint idea that wasn’t fully formed. When everything came together with the final revelation, I was shocked. It was a brilliant twist.
I don’t know if the next book will top this one, but I’m excited to read the rest of the series….

You know a book is astounding when it leaves you with your face in your hands and speechless.

I know is only 8th of January, but right now I can assure you this book will be on my top ten next year, is a must read!
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ve already read the reviews of the two previous books of this series, Six Stories, all of them are a great read. But this one is my favourite: hunting, real and twisted, any book lover’s dream book!
The Six Stories series is a book told like a podcast, every time I read one of the books I can listen to the voice of Scott King on my mind, dark and hunted telling the cases he is covering and sharing with us. He tries not to be involved in the case, simply transmitting opinions and facts and being as objective as possible to make the “listener” to take their own thoughts and decisions without influencing them. The case always have six parts, each one of them darker than the previous one while the 6th part is the culmination with a twisted ending that will hunt the “listener” for a while.
I am not sure if I am objective as a reviewer on this book, because I loved all the previous books so much that I am always recommending them to anyone who asks for an interesting read on their reading list. But I loved “The Changeling”, as always it has a horror part, based on folklore and true stories, making the read hunting and original. Then, there’s the case that even if it has a supernatural part, the “solution” is always human, I am sure that you are aware that humans are more dangerous than animals!
This case will be more personal for Scott; after receiving a strange letter, he will not be able to stay away from the case and will have nightmares and seeing ghosts involved on the case… Will this be the last podcast we will enjoy from Scott? I really hope not, I can’t wait to “listen” his next case!
This case is not for light-hearted readers, it involves haunting sounds, witches and some parenting problems that I am sure will surprise every reader at the twisted ending. But if you love a good book, well written and addictive, don’t doubt that this it has to be your next read.
Ready for The Changeling?

After Wesolowski’s debut Six Stories and its sequel Hydra, I was completely hooked on this series and Changeling has probably become one of my top books of 2021. I knew it would be good but I was not ready for the chilling, supernatural myths, the unsettling secrets and the absolute jaw-dropping twist at the end.

Scott King tells us the chilling mystery of 7-year-old Alfie and his disappearance on Christmas Eve 1988 in Wentshire Forest. We hear the story told from a range of different people this time with a lot of explanation on the strange sightings they see/heard in the forest Aflie ent missing. I made a big mistake of reading a lot of this at night and started to hear a lot of strange noises in my flat because I was fully immersed in the story.

As soon as I started reading this book, I could tell it was a bit different from the rest. Although it is written in the same incredible style, the story seemed to build differently and have a particularly eerie atmosphere. My suspicions were all confirmed when I nearly screamed out loud when the final twist was revealed at the end, I could hardly contain myself and my excitement for this whole series!

This was such a great continuation to the series and I loved how it continued on from the previous books with little callbacks and working off what we already knew about Scott King and Six Stories.

The characters, as per usual, were incredibly well written and were of course so layered that it is them in addition to the intriguing mystery that keeps you interested. I love how we got a wide array of perspectives from those directly involved in the disappearance of the little boy but also those from just outside to some people who are completely removed. And Anne was such an interesting character and I thought it was great how she subtly directed Scott in his inquiries until the final reveal.

The plot was wonderfully constructed and I adored how the reveal was done becasue it was just absolutely brilliant. I did somehow call it, but I had somehow called it but I then convinced myself that it was too far-fetched. I just loved how much it was and it made me so happy to see the ending becasue I loved how it was all wrapped up as it was so satisfying. Especially seeing how it all came together from the little clues along the way.

The writing was incredible and I thought that it was just so brilliant. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book.
