Some of the narrative decisions here seemed a bit too convenient and repetitive, but it was still entertaining overall. These books will remain as guilty pleasure reads on my shelf while Vanyel serves as my special snowflake self-pity self-insert.
No regrets.

I HAVE CONSUMED THIS LAST BOOK IN LIGHTNING SPEED BC IT WAS SO TENSE
What a ride this trilogy was! I feel like so much has happened in this last book but it didn’t feel rushed or bulky at all in my opinion.
Despite the fact that Stefen was only introduced in this book, I feel like I have known him for much longer. I absolutely adore his relationship with Vanyel. They were so tender with each other (with the exception of the bit where they were riding north in the snow storm ;-; ). The fact that they were both music nerds made me extremely happy. Although I feel like Vanyel had more chemistry with Tylendel, I still think his and Stefen’s interactions were really cute. I love the yearning and flirting all the way. I was slightly disappointed with the reveal that Stef was actually Lendel’s reincarnation in a way, because I would rather it be that Vanyel was able to move on and start to pour his love into another completely different person, but all of the doubt and disappointment I felt in that reveal disappeared when I start seeing how the revenge rampage Vanyel went on perfectly mirrors the way Lendel has went about his in the first book. It made it so much more delicious to read. Like a train crash scene, its end is predictable and absolutely tragic, but you can’t seem to look away. It really punches you in the gut too, the way the end came so rapidly.
There were a lot of casualties in this book, and it made sense, this is supposed to be an end of an era. I will miss Savil deeply.
A fantastic end to a trilogy, albeit with an ending not of the main couple living happily after until they die of old age . But I really appreciate how the author tied up the story, with the song that Stefen wrote after Vanyel’s heroic sacrifice . It made me cry so hard.

This book totally redeems the series after the long-winded pity party that was Magic's Promise. I couldn't put this one down, it's easily the best Mercedes Lackey book I've read so far.
