The pacing of this book is off. The first half of the story was very slow and to be honest didn't draw me in much. I wasn't keen to pick the book up like I was with book one.

The second half of the story was very fast paced and I flew through it in just a few hours.

The ending however, was incredibly jarring and it took me a second once I had turned the page to realise I was at the acknowledgements and not the next chapter. It felt like Elle cut the story off so she could make another book instead writing to the books natural end.

However, I still love Aliza and Alistair. The love for them is what pushed me through the first half, wanting to see how they tackled married life and then how they navigated the new dynamic of being on a contract.

Aliza joining Alistair on his newest contract felt a bit forced, it really highlighted how surviving the previous battled had stroked her ego and in reality, she just wouldn't have been brought along.

Ultimately, I feel Aliza did more on the contract that Alistair did. It would be nice to see Alistair in his prime, showing us why he got the title and respect as on of the best riders. Though it was interesting to see both characters deal with their PTSD in different ways and I really appreciated when tragedy befell the couple, Elle wrote Alistair with emotion and feelings instead of a man who repressed everything. It was refreshing.

All in all, the story was enjoyable, even if it did feel like a filler and I look forward to the 3rd book to see how Aliza and Alistair grow.
