Both the characters of Anne-Marie and Dave made me so angry!  However that is the sign of them being written well!
The story got a little lacklustre in the middle but the epilogue made up for it - I was hoping for that all along!

I wanted a quick kindle unlimited read to grab my attention, and this provided! This is like the fast food version of a book. Enjoyable and hard to put down, but ultimately not the greatest, most memorable, or most filling. But it is exactly what I asked for!

Big fan of thrillers so I thought I’d like this one a little more but it does start out as a slow burn story at first. Once you get into it the pace changes and it’s great. I liked that the story had a switching timeline, going from the present day to the past with the characters flashbacks. It was mysterious and dark, overall great!

Just how far will a mother go to protect her child? Well for those of us who are mothers I would say to the ends of the earth and back. Anne Marie, waitress and single mom comes face to face with that question in The Waitress.
I have to say that this novel does show how prior trauma might color your current relationship with your child. To be fair though, I found it difficult to empathize or believe with the main character or her child. Definitely not a book I would read again. Possibly a good book for someone who doesn’t have kids or who would overlook anything (and I mean anything) their kids might do in the future .
