6/17/16 - second read through so I can start book two. Love the strong heroine, the hints of romance on both sides of the coin.. without the drama of an actual romance or triangle or anything of the like. Nettie is a great, strong heroine even as she is trying to figure out who...and what...she is. I'm so looking forward to diving into book 2 now.

I picked this book up as a blind-read. I'd heard nothing about it - I just happened to see it on my library's "new release" shelf. I'm so glad I stumbled on it! It was so much fun, and I loved the heroine and the mix of old west and paranormal. Can't wait for the next one!!

While I enjoyed Wake of Vultures, I didn't love it. However that's not to day it wasn't good or great to amazing, more that in this case the writing style just didn't mesh with me as it was a western.

I enjoyed Nettie, she was a well developed character and I loved Sam as a subtle love interest. At times I did find the plot a bit lagging but that may again be because western stuff just doesn't usually grab me. I aldo didn't care about the horsey stuff and I thought the cannibal owl was silly. But that's just me. Winifred was brilliant and I'm sure there will be more of her in future.

As a whole I would recommend it, so long as you know you're going in for a western-esque fantasy with a Bisexual trans MC.

I honestly can't remember the last time I had so much fun reading a book. Straight-ahead storytelling, fantastic imagination, humor and amazing empathy all wrapped up in one slim novel. Thank goodness there are more stories about The Shadow. I cannot wait to read them all.

YO THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD

also the over does not go anywhere close to expressing the sheer amount of yeehaw this book contains. This book is like if all my buzz words had an orgy. western, cryptids/paranormal, not only queer but complex in its queerness. Will definitely be continuing in the series. Am very hyped to see what comes next.

While I enjoyed this book well enough, I’d rather read books actually written by First Nation folx and trans folx.

A really enjoyable read, the gender/sexuality exploration is a bit more of the story than I usually enjoy, but it was good to have representation. Great world building.

A beautiful Western romp, a delicate look at the power of reimagining yourself in your own image disguised as a 'go to kill the monster' fantasy.
