Of course I have seen the movie, so I was surprised by just how much more story there is here with Antonia and Kylie so much older and that most of the story takes place in NY instead of Salem. I still loved it, though I wasn't always convinced it was giving a great message.

I love the distinct personalities of each women and I love the relationships and dynamics. They were complicated and real and heartfelt. I did not love the way love was thrown about so much. I would not define most of the situations in this books as love, but rather obsession and maybe should have been made a bit more clear within the story to the girls in both generations that there is a difference and that relationships can be unhealthy.

At first I was worried I wouldn’t like this as much as I like the film. While they are the same story, they are also different and go on different time lines. I like the differences in the book more than I thought I would and enjoyed listening to the novel. I’m excited to read the other books in this series.

Spoiler I started this series because of the movie. I really enjoyed the 1st 2 books perhaps because I had nothing to compare them to.

I felt like this book really didn't dive deeper into sister relationships or family relationships with the aunts. Everything seemed surface level to me.

Also, the small mention of the aunts' lives didn't match up with the previous book. They mentioned the only boy aunt Jet loved was a boy who was struck by lightning. While there was aboy who love Jet who did die that way, the previous book Levi was the love of her life and he died in a car accident.
