Comic romantic thriller! An interesting concept and has great passages but kinda lost me at the end. Still cool tho!

2.5, rounding up.

So I was trying to explain how I felt about this book to my mom. The writing was great, and I imagine the author is a quirky and fun person to hang out with, but let’s say the author’s zingers only come out 15-20% of the time. Some of the time, she’s serious and not snarky/sarcastic. In her book, however, the narrator is snarky/sarcastic 100% of the time… and I guess I didn’t really enjoy that. From a writing standout, the author nailed it, I suppose. However, it just seemed a bit pretentious to me.

Anyway, that’s what I thought. The figurative language was amazing and the character development was fine. I just wasn’t invested in either the characters or the plot.

This book is fine, a bit dense and confusing and I just couldn’t get into it properly

Thanks to NetGalley for the audiobook ARC!

Three times while reading Cult Classic, I thought 'this is a really cool idea for a novel!' Which should show you that the plot line is anything but stale! I found the writing to be witty, and the narration top-notch, which is not always the case when the author is the narrator (I'm looking at you Daniel Handler). I highly recommend this book!

DNF at 25%. I couldn't get into the plot nor did I care about Lola.
