Simply because it took me a month to plow through this reading it a few pages at a time before bed, I am certain I did not grasp the full weight and impact of McCarthy's story. I was about to give it three stars, but that's just not far given the beautiful language and intricately woven story line.

Now I'll have to get to the other two books in the trilogy to see if my initial impression was warranted.

More reading. All good.

this would be a perfect book if the heterosexual romance, admittedly a crucial engine of the plot, were absent

To be honest, when I found out the patriarchy wasn’t about horses, I lost interest

That's good. Helps you die. Doesn't help you to live.
